Every woman knows that menopause can suck. What every woman doesn’t know is that the symptoms of menopause are not only unnatural but are a sign of ill health. Women are not supposed to suffer with insomnia, hot flashes, sadness, anxiety, weight gain, and/or mood swings when entering or in menopause.
Menopause is a natural transition into the next phase of life. It is one to be celebrated, not feared. Yet feared it is because our society has become full of processed, fake foods, unending stress, xenohormones, drugs, chemicals, and unhealthy lifestyles, leaving the majority of women to suffer from one or more of these symptoms.
Symptoms are your body’s way of telling you that something is wrong. Trying to stifle the symptoms with medications is like putting a muzzle over a baby’s mouth so you can’t hear him/her cry. How will you know when something is wrong or needs attention?
Menopausal women are more likely to suffer from:
Auto immune disease
All of these diseases have a nutritional component and most Americans are nutritionally deficient. You must feed your body the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and vibrant. Every cell in your body needs vitamins and minerals to survive and thrive.
Filling the body with hormones without knowing what is actually going on is dangerous and happening at an alarming rate. Hormones are powerful chemicals in very tiny amounts. Any hormone above it’s physiological dose will throw the whole system out of balance.
A friend asked me today how I got into working with women in menopause (while chuckling:). I told him flat out that it was because of my experience with menopause that led me on this path. I had almost all of the symptoms mentioned above and more. And, I thought I was healthy. My diet was better than the majority of people that I associated with including friends and family. That really didn’t say much because you should see what they were eating. When I look back I am shocked at all the garbage that I did eat.
The biggest culprit for me was carbohydrates. Carbs as in; bagels, bread, pasta and all of those feel good foods. Just because I wasn’t eating fast foods, cakes and cookies didn’t mean I had a good diet. Where were my nutrients coming from? Surprise – they weren’t coming from anywhere because I rarely ate vegetables, fruits and real whole foods.
Once I got the crap out of my diet I had more room for vegetables, salads and real food. The more I ate of these “real foods” the better I felt and away went my symptoms. I am not saying that this is the only thing you have to do to alleviate the so called symptoms of menopause but I am saying that this is the most important place to start and one that you have total control over.
You, and only you, can make this part of the healing process happen. It’s the #1 remedy for pretty much any discomfort or dis-ease that a woman or man suffers from.
While we are in the thick of the holiday season why not just say no to some of the yummy fake foods that are tempting you every day and grab a piece of celery or a handful of grapes and supply your body with the nutrients it needs to be happy and healthy.
